I was up and going in about fifteen minutes or so.All in all the Diamond GC1500 HD video capture device is a high performance, reasonably priced option for gamers interested in recording or streaming their content.

The directions and software installation disc included are straight forward and accurate. In my setup it is behind my monitors where no one would even know it is there. It is small and mostly black except for the inputs/outputs, making it discrete. I leave it plugged in 24/7 for ready recording and haven't had any issues with that. But, if FPS is a concern, it is worth calling out here, though it's not an issue for me personally. In terms of the appearance and setup, the box is actually quite compact and never gets warm enough for me to be concerned about it overheating. Not a huge deal, and I only have one other capture device that does 60 fps, and that one has much stricter system requirements (including a USB 3.0), a higher cost and is prone to crashing after making large video files. One thing to note is that it does seem to cap the framerate at 30 frames per second. As advertised, this device is completely capable of recording at a 1080 resolution. Still, I have lost recordings using other capture devices in the past and as a result try to keep my content to smaller sections because you are a) less likely to crash b) if it does you're out 10 minutes, not an hour and c) the video files tend to be easier to work with if you plan to editing them down the road.I had no issues streaming my content nor getting usable recordings out of it, so that was great.

I am thrilled to state that I never encountered any crashes with this software during my testing, even when I did one very long roughly 90 minute recording (I do have a really powerful PC with a GTX 1080 so perhaps that is a factor in the continually high performance). As a matter of personal best practice, I try to keep my recordings to fifteen minutes or less. I say at least because these recording files can get pretty large in size.

While on the topic of requirements, your video card should be DirectX 9 or higher and at least a gig of free hard drive space. Note that the connection to your machine does require a USB 2.0 port or better. Obviously depending on the type of game you are playing, this might not be a concern, but if you are looking at a quick-twitch shooter, that slight bit of lag can be really frustrating to deal with, so I am happy to report that is not an issue with this device. On the side of the box you have your connection to the computer (cable provided). This part of the process worked very well also, with no evident delay - something I have encountered with other units. On the opposite side of the box you have the outputs, so the box can serve as a pass-through back to your television.

I tested that with the Wii and had no problems with it, just to be thorough, but for my own purposes the HDMI port is what I intend to use and that was what I spent the vast majority of my time working with. There are also inputs for those using component video with RCA audio. I then take that HDMI and feed it into the box (one HDMI cable is provided). I am running a 5 HDMI switcher into this so I can toggle between PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PS TV. I have used a handful of other capture devices in the past, but after spending a great deal of time with the Diamond CG1500, I can comfortably state that it has proven to be the best of the bunch to date.First, a little backstory on my setup. Run gaming or whatever on the gaming PC, capture on the laptop and all is flawless. I use the spare laptop as the capture device and plug the source into the Capture Device. Now either the GC1000 or GC1500 work flawlessly.

That said I thought perhaps the problems were caused by other software on the laptop so I scrubbed the HDD on a spare laptop, installed Windows (tried 8.1 and 10.1803) and loaded ONLY the Diamond GC driver and GUI. Fortunately the GUI (CapWiz) for the GC1000 will work with the GC1500.

I bought the GC1500 and the problem seemed to be solved, but the Windows GUI is not anywhere as good as that for the GC1000. I have an earlier model GC1000 that had always been hard to get functioning but when it worked it worked well until 2 weeks ago, when the software wouldn't launch because of an error.
